DC Cops Allegedly Discover Multiple Overdose Victims Blocks Apart, One Dead Person

Cops in the U.S. capital discovered five people suffering from overdoses within blocks of each other as well as a deceased person, according to police and reports.

Washington, D.C., Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) officers and other emergency personnel responded to multiple suspected overdoses connected to five people along with a sixth person declared dead, a police spokewoman told the Daily Caller. An MPD incident report said officers responded June 25 at about 1:34 p.m. local time to 14th St. NE and H St. NE to support D.C. Fire and Emergency Medical Services (DCFEMS) personnel assisting someone who was suspected of having overdosed. The individual allegedly refused further treatment after Naloxone was administered and left the scene. Naloxone is used in cases of fentanyl and opioid overdose.

The DCFEMS personnel administered Naloxone to another unconscious person at at 8th St. NE and H St. NE who was then taken to the hospital for further care, according to the incident report. MPD officers learned of potentially unconscsious people outside 902 H St. NE, and cops also provided Naloxone to two other unconscious individuals outside 14th St. NE and H St. NE, the report continued. Multiple news reports put the number of unconscious persons at eight, but the police spokeswoman disputed the number in an email to the Caller.

The sixth individual was discovered not responding or breathing, and officials declared the person dead at the scene, according to DC News Now. The MPD spokeswoman did not reveal the cause of death and noted the incident was covered in a separate death investigation report. She added that the agency was awaiting notification of the deceased’s next of kin before releasing the report.

The MPD spokeswoman neither shared what they believed caused the alleged overdoses nor whether the persons knew one another. Of the five who were treated with Naloxone, three were men and two women, according to the spokeswoman.

The blocks where the suspected drug overdose victims were found are well frequented by the public, as it boasts many restaurants and stores, WUSA9 reported. The first Starbucks in the U.S. to conduct business using mainly American Sign Language opened in the neighborhood back in October 2018, according to local news site DCist.
