George, who claims she acted in self-defense, faces possible execution by firing squad if convicted, according to multiple reports published Thursday.
Kent Online, a regional British news website, claims to have identified the deceased man as Bill Treeby. Treeby’s father, Jack Treeby, was killed in a “deliberate hit-and-run” by his family members in 2009, according to Kent Online. Jack Treeby’s brother and nephews were convicted of murder for the incident, the BBC reported.
George met the man on Facebook and traveled to Dubai twice to visit him, according to CBS News, citing detained in Dubai (DiD), an advocacy group for foreign nationals detained in the Gulf. George supposedly enjoyed her first trip to Dubai, despite concerns over a bikini photo shoot arranged by the man. It was George’s second trip where the romance apparently soured.
DiD says George saw the man’s behavior “change dramatically” during her second visit, alleging the man became “increasingly controlling and abusive.” George claims she realized the man had booked her a one-way ticket to Dubai, stranding her in the country, according to DiD. George alleges that, one evening, the man took her to a bar and became intoxicated. She claims he assaulted her in a car before returning to the apartment, where the assault continued, according to DiD.

George’s mother addressed that alleged assault in a statement published by DiD: “When I spoke to Brooke right after the incident, she was absolutely terrified. I have never seen my daughter so frightened in my life. She was crying uncontrollably. I could see that one of her eyes was badly swollen and was beginning to close.”
George says she attempted to return home after the alleged assault, but discovered the man had taken her passport. George’s family told DiD that George was “crying and begging for her passport’s return when she was punched hard in the face and attacked.”
George claims that, fearing for her life, she grabbed a kitchen knife and committed an act of self-defense, according to DiD. (RELATED: Teenager’s Decade-Old Self-Defense Shooting Resurfaces In Viral Social Media Post)
DiD CEO Radha Stirling states: “Over recent years, there have been increasing reports of women, including social media influencers, models and young travellers, being lured to Dubai with promises of luxury lifestyles, paid work, holidays or romantic relationships, only to later allege that they were subjected to forced attendance at porta-potty parties, sexual exploitation, coercion, violence or other degrading treatment.”
