Taylor, a star of the reality TV show “The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives,” announced on the “On Purpose with Jay Shetty” podcast that she is bisexual and dating a woman.
“It’s just something that I honestly didn’t really know how to formally address for a long period of my life,” Layla said. “I’m gay and I’m bi and date women and men.”
A large portion of Taylor’s screen time on the show is dedicated to her struggles growing up as a black woman in a mostly white area.
Taylor converted to Mormonism at age 16. She later married and had two children with Clayton Wessel before divorcing him in 2025. Taylor said at the time she did not know if her attraction to women was “just a phase.” (RELATED: ‘The Bachelor’ Star Reveals Bizarre Tattoo Scheme He Used To Hide Gay Hookups)
She told Shetty that she always had these feelings.
“I would just kind of underplay it for a long period of my life,” she said, adding, “I just feel like I’m finally in the era that I’m over not being truly myself, and I’m over not showing every part of Layla to the world. I’m very proud now to be out.”

Taylor cited the people in her community as a reason she came out.
“Queer representation around me — I could look at it and be like, ‘OK, this is normal.’”
