‘Mumbai Slum’: Spencer Pratt Blasts Democrat After Cockroach Crashes Reporter’s Live Shot

Spencer Pratt blasted Democrat Los Angeles councilmember and mayoral candidate Nithya Raman by accusing her of making her district “filthy” after a cockroach crawled on a KTLA reporter during a live shot.

Rachel Menitoff was filming a live shot in the Sherman Oaks neighborhood of Los Angeles, California, when a cockroach could be seen crawling up her neck, according to KTLA. The insect then appeared to jump onto her microphone. While Menitoff did not seem to notice the cockroach initially, she later set her microphone down and brushed her hands over her body to get rid of the insect. Pratt responded to the incident by criticizing Raman online.

“SURPRISE LANDING,” KTLA wrote in a July 15 post on X sharing the video. “An insect crashed @KTLA reporter @RachelMenitoff’s live shot last night, and we must praise her professionalism. Who else could remain this cool!?”

Pratt reposted the video on July 15 and slammed Raman. “Nithya Raman has made her district so filthy, you can’t even do a quick news hit without cockroaches crawling all over you like some Mumbai slum. Raman’s district includes parts of the Sherman Oaks neighborhood, though not the whole community, according to a LA Council District 4 map featured on the city’s website.

Pratt ran against Raman, who represents Los Angeles’ 4th District, as well as Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass in the 2026 mayoral primary. Pratt received 26% of the vote during the Los Angeles primary election, disqualifying him from a runoff against Raman, who received 29% of the vote, and Bass, who received 34% of the vote, according to the Los Angeles Times.

Throughout his campaign, Pratt has painted Los Angeles as a disaster, highlighting the city’s issues with homelessness and drugs. He reportedly shared an AI-generated video posted in May that depicted Los Angeles as a hellscape on X. In a debate ahead of the Los Angeles primary, Pratt also criticized plans to address homeless drug addicts with a treatment bed-focused approach, calling the move an “absolute failure” for both Raman and Bass.

Raman said she did not think Los Angeles is a “hellscape” during a June 2026 appearance on MS NOW, though she acknowledged that residents had reasons to be frustrated with the city’s political leadership.

Raman, who chairs the City Council’s Housing and Homelessness Committee, launched the Time Limited Subsidy program in September 2025 to help get homeless individuals off the streets, according to the California Post. Raman reportedly planned to help individuals into 2,000 rent-subsidized apartments through the program but only three apartments are occupied.

Raman will face off against the incumbent Bass in November.
