Female Therapist Charged For Allegedly Engaging In Sexual Relationship With Underage Boy
A San Francisco therapist is facing seven felony counts after she allegedly raped a minor whom she was treating while he was in juvenile detention, according to a Contra Costa District Attorney’s Office press release.

Sofia Ann-Buitron Drotts, 26, has been charged with two counts of unlawful sexual intercourse, two counts of oral copulation of a person under 18 years of age, one count of sexual penetration by a foreign object, two counts of sending harmful matter to a minor, and one count of possession of child or youth pornography, according to the same press release. She was assigned to be the minor’s therapist while she was employed at the John Davis Juvenile Detention Center.
Drotts allegedly engaged in a sexual relationship with the minor after he’d been released from detention, the district attorney’s office said. The relationship lasted from April 1, 2026 until July 14, 2026 when Drotts was arrested by the Concord Police. The police received a tip from a probation supervisor and conducted an investigation before making the arrest and referring the case to the district attorney’s office.
The minor’s family is also pursuing a separate civil case in relation to the alleged incident, according to the New York Post. The 17-year-old’s mother, not identified, reacted to Drotts’ arrest while speaking with the outlet.
“We trusted this professional with our son’s healing and well-being, and that trust was fundamentally shattered. Our focus now is entirely on our son’s recovery and protection,” the teen’s mother said.
“We are speaking out to ensure that no other family has to endure this pain, and to encourage anyone else who may have been harmed to find the strength to come forward,” she added. (RELATED: Convicted Idaho University Killer Changes His Tune On Guilty Plea)
John Burris, the attorney representing the teen’s family, alleged that Drotts began grooming him in 2024 when he was 14 or 15 years old, according to the New York Post. Drotts also continued to serve as the boy’s therapist once he was released on probation and allegedly had “unlawful sexual contact” with him, according to court papers referenced by the outlet.
“During the two years in which Doe was incarcerated at the juvenile Hall, Drotts abused her position as his therapist to establish an inappropriate emotional connection with Doe, ‘grooming’ him with the objective of sexual abuse,” the same court papers claim.
In addition, the alleged sexual abuse was allowed to continue due to county agents and supervisors’ inability to detect red flags, the papers state.
Drotts graduated from the University of Wisconsin at Madison in 2022, according to an Instagram post shared by the university. Drotts was a psychology major with certificates in criminal justice, gender and women studies, and chicano/a latino/a studies. Drotts planned to obtain her PhD. in Clinical Psychology at Palo Alto University following graduation, according to the same post.
Drotts has been released from prison, the New York Post reported, citing the Contra Costa Sheriff’s Office. The Contra Costa Superior Court will set an arraignment date for Drotts, the district attorney’s office said.
