Video Appears To Show Man Attempting To Kidnap Child. Mom Fights Him Off With Gas Pump
Police arrested a 30-year-old man in late July on attempted kidnapping charges after he allegedly tried to grab a child at a gas station in Georgia.
Along with attempted kidnapping, authorities also charged Jerahn Tucker with simple assault (based on) fear. Tucker allegedly approached the woman, who has not been identified, while she was pumping gas at the Shell gas station in Marietta, Georgia.
The suspect was shirtless and barefoot at the time and allegedly told the woman he had a gun, according to a FOX 5 Atlanta report published July 28, citing an arrest warrant. He approached the woman and spoke to her.
Video of the incident obtained by WSB-TV shows a child exit the vehicle when the suspect attempts to grab him. The woman then reaches for the gas pump. Two witnesses also step in to offer help. The suspect also appears to open the back door of the vehicle, where a second child was seated, according to the same video.
Charles McPhilamy, a public information officer at the Marietta Police Department, praised the mom for her quick thinking, according to WSB-TV.

“The actions of the mother and everyone on the scene, their ability to remain calm under pressure and push him away, get him away from the children, get a hold of us so that we can get to the area allowed us to hold this individual accountable,” McPhilamy said.(RELATED: Caught On Camera: Teen Lifeguard Braves Pounding Waves To Save 10-Year-Old Boy)
While the suspect attempted to flee the scene, police stopped him and arrested him, according to FOX 5 Atlanta. Police said they found a THC vape in his vehicle. The Cobb County Police Department assisted the Marietta Police Department in making the arrest, WSB-TV reported.
Police also said workers at the gas station’s store recognized the suspect as a frequent customer. The store manager has repeatedly kicked him off the property, according to the outlet.
Although police arrested Tucker, they aren’t sure what prompted the incident.
“The million-dollar question everyone watching is going to ask: Why did this happen? Why did this occur? And we don’t know those answers,” McPhilamy told WSB-TV.
