Dem Claims Israel First Hot Mic Audio Is ‘Manipulated’ And ‘Unsourced’

Michigan State Sen. Jeremy Moss called the released hot mic audio regarding his Israel stance “manipulated” and “unsourced.”

Moss, a Jewish LGBTQ state senator, is seeking to become Michigan’s next congressman after defeating attorney Aisha Farooqi in the Aug. 4 Democratic primary for the seat being vacated by Michigan Democrat Rep. Haley Stevens, who is running for the U.S. Senate. Moss currently serves as president pro tempore of the Michigan Senate and is serving his second term in the chamber. The audio was originally posted to X on July 21 by Farooqi, Moss’s primary opponent. In the recording, Moss is alleged to say that the “entire purpose” of his campaign is to ensure continued U.S. support for Israel and that “America is not our homeland.”

“I, of course, feel a natural inclination for my own people, and of course, Israel is very important to us as a community,” Moss allegedly says. “I would say that the entire purpose of my campaign is to make sure America continues to support Israel. You know, I don’t think—I don’t think it’s wrong for Jews in America to want to put Israel first. America is not our homeland. We have been victims of antisemitism here.”

In a response to an inquiry posed by the Daily Caller, Moss dismissed the recording as “manipulated and unsourced,” arguing that it attributes statements to him that he “never did or never would say” and was intended to portray him as anti-American. He also accused his critics of promoting “offensive tropes and lies,” including what he called the “lie of dual loyalty” targeting Jewish Americans.

Moss further wrote he is focused on protecting voting rights and democracy, opposing the Trump administration and building an America “where everyone is welcome and can thrive.” He also pointed to priorities including dismantling U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), addressing what he described as its cruelty, and lowering healthcare costs. “I’m a proud Michigander. I was born in Detroit. I grew up in Oakland County. I won’t stand for people using lies to diminish my American story,” Moss said.

He also described the current political environment as a “dangerous era of disinformation,” arguing that false claims should not be amplified simply because they reinforce someone’s political beliefs. “Circulating a lie because it affirms your bias or belief is equally bad whether it comes from the left or the right,” he wrote.

“We all have a choice not to spread fabricated images, videos, and audios about candidates and campaigns,” Moss continued. “We all have a role in stopping the erosion of our democracy.”

Responding to Moss’s comments, Republican Troy, Michigan, Mayor Ethan Baker, the GOP candidate in the race, said the state senator should have the opportunity to explain what he meant in the hot-mic recording.

“First, I think it makes sense for State Sen. Moss to have the opportunity to explain what he meant in his hot-mic statement. That said, I don’t believe someone who is running for U.S. Congress should limit their sole purpose to one issue, because that’s not how to best represent all people and voices in the district,” Baker told the Caller. “As a Member of Congress, the proper balancing and understanding of all interests is what’s best for our district and country, which both need to come first,” he added.
