During their August 16 set at the Illinois State Fair, Thomas swung his microphone stand around a few times before smacking guitarist Doucette in the head. His smashed in-ear monitors were stuck in his ear as he bent over and shuffled off-stage, seemingly in pain.

Fan-shared video of the moment circulated widely on social media, as did an apology from Thomas and a clip that showed the damage to Doucette’s ear.

Thomas took ownership for his actions on stage, telling fans, “Every night I’m over there, and I’m throwing this goddamn thing around … oh I went, it nailed him,” in the fan-shared video.

“Yeah, it nailed him hard,” he said.

Thomas continued, “My best friend in the world and I think I almost killed him and I feel really bad about this.”

He told fans, “By the way, it felt like a really good idea right up until now. I feel like an ass.”

Doucette later shared a video on Instagram while aboard the band’s tour bus. Several people leaned over him and attempted to extract the pieces of the broken mic that were seemingly lodged in his hear.

Someone held a phone flashlight while another person probed his ear with tweezers.

“So here’s what’s happening right now: Rob took me the fuck out with his swinging the fucking mic stand during that show, and I have bits of my in-ears — which he fuckin’ smashed — in my ear,” he said.

A fragment seemed to be successfully removed, prompting Doucette to say, “Oh, I fucking feel that. That is not fun. That is not fun. Please don’t move the bus.” (RELATED: ‘Pulled Through A Windshield’: Country Music Star Injured In Tour Bus Crash)

He concluded his message by saying, “Fuckin’ Rob!”

Doucette captioned the clip with the words, “After 30 years of mic swinging, Rob claimed his first victim: @repairmethod of course.”
