Hold-In Ends After Vita Vea Agrees To 1-Year, $30 Million Extension With Buccaneers: REPORT

Tampa can sleep now! At least for a year.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive tackle Vita Vea has officially ended his hold-in with the franchise, doing so Wednesday as the organization announced it agreed to terms with the two-time Pro Bowler on a one-year contract extension.

The Buccaneers reached an agreement with Vea and his agent, Collin Roberts, on the deal that puts an extra $6 million on top of the $18 million he was already slated to get paid for the 2026 season. Altogether, that brings his salary to $24 million, with another $24 million in 2027, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. Per ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, who also cited a source, Vea will be getting $30 million in guaranteed money.

In July, before the beginning of training camp, the 31-year-old Vea had put in a trade request with the Bucs due to no guaranteed money being a part of his current contract, and he was seeking a deal that reflected his market value and performance.

Let’s keep it completely real: the Buccaneers’ front office had zero choice here.

You simply do not let a walking, talking 350-pound eclipse walk out the door when your entire defensive identity is built on collapsing the pocket from the inside out.

Head coach Todd Bowles’ defense is aggressive, chaotic, and blitz-heavy, but it only works if you have an absolute monster in the middle demanding double teams on every snap, and that’s exactly where Vita Vea comes in.

Now the Bucs have to figure out how to lock him in long-term, but that’s another story for another day.
