Alanis Morissette Drops Bombshell Lawsuit Alleging Extortion Scheme
Alanis Morissette filed a lawsuit Tuesday against her former tour manager, accusing her of an alleged extortion scheme involving drugs.
The famous singer alleged that Keren Urinov was behind what she described in court documents as a “calculated blackmail campaign” stemming from a July 2025 incident at a U.K. airport, according to Rolling Stone.
Morissette alleged the U.K. Border Force flagged Urinov’s bag for containing marijuana and xylazine, an animal tranquilizer. The lawsuit claims Urinov told authorities the bag and its contents belonged to her and then later sent threatening letters demanding that Morissette tell British authorities the drugs belonged to Morissette. The filing claims Urinov went on to demand a 15-year employment contract that would include significant compensation, as well as annual raises and bonuses, and threatened to implicate Morissette for drug trafficking if she refused to comply, according to Rolling Stone.
Morissette is suing for civil extortion, fraud, and negligent misrepresentation. She is seeking a jury trial, compensatory damages of more than $75,000, and punitive damages.

“Plaintiff Alanis Morissette is the victim of a calculated blackmail campaign orchestrated by a disgruntled former tour manager,” the lawsuit filed in Los Angeles federal court reads. “Morissette will not agree to work with an incompetent blackmailer for the next fifteen years or pay her a ransom under the gun.”

The six-page filing claimed Urinov showed officers an Israeli medical marijuana license when she was arrested by British authorities. It went on to allege Urinov was then detained in Spain and again told border officials the bag containing the drugs belonged to her.
Morissette claimed that Urinov and her attorney sent “increasingly extortionate” letters threatening to sue when the tour concluded, according to Rolling Stone.

Morissette said she felt she had “no choice” but to “reluctantly” file her own lawsuit, knowing that it may result in “attacks on her character.”
She asserted that she filed the lawsuit to protect herself against “patently frivolous” allegations.
