The 34-year-old veteran was booked on two preliminary misdemeanor counts following the downtown Indianapolis arrest, according to jail records cited by TMZ.

Police classified the charges as a Class C misdemeanor for operating a vehicle while intoxicated with a blood alcohol level of 0.08 or higher and a Class A misdemeanor for operating while intoxicated and endangering a person, according to FOX59. The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department recorded his blood alcohol concentration at 0.08 or above, Yahoo Sports reported. Trouble found Allen around 1 a.m. in the 100 block of South Meridian Street, according to FOX59. Officers first took interest in a car sitting in a no-parking zone and opened a traffic investigation. They reported signs of intoxication once they made contact with the driver. Allen landed at the Marion County Arrestee Processing Center after his arrest, according to TMZ.

Police stressed that the case remains unproven. “An arrest and a charge are merely accusations,” the IMPD said in a statement to the New York Post, “and Allen should be considered innocent unless and until found guilty in court. The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office will make the final charging decision.”

The Colts acknowledged the situation without tipping their hand. “We are aware of the incident involving Keenan Allen last night,” the team said in a statement to Yahoo Sports. “We are in the process of gathering more information and have no further comment at this time.”

The arrest came only hours after Allen made his Indianapolis debut. He caught one pass for 24 yards Saturday in a 25-16 preseason loss to Detroit, according to the Hoosier Enquirer. The Colts signed him earlier this month to strengthen a receiving group that includes Alec Pierce and Josh Downs.

Los Angeles drafted Allen in the third round in 2013, and he built a six-time Pro Bowl career with the Chargers, according to the Post. A conviction or guilty plea could trigger league discipline as steep as a three-game suspension under the NFL substance-abuse policy, according to FOX59.
