Democrat’s Net Worth Exploded After Leaving Congress. She’s Running Again — This Time Much Richer

Former Democrat Virginia Rep. Elaine Luria is once again running for Congress in the commonwealth’s second district. But this time around, she’s much, much richer on paper.

Since leaving Congress in 2023 after two terms, Luria’s net worth has skyrocketed, according to financial disclosure records reviewed by the Daily Caller.

Luria’s financial assets in 2023 were estimated to be worth anywhere between $3.4 million and $12.9 million, her final financial disclosure report . (RELATED: Prolific Stock Trader Nancy Pelosi Assures Us She’s Not In Congress For Money)

But Luria’s net worth surged in the years after departing Congress, to her candidacy financial disclosure report, which was filed in May. The portfolio is larger and more diversified, and the disclosed financial assets put her net worth at anywhere up to $51.1 million.

She also reported 2025 earned income from a BAE Systems board seat and two LLCs that were dissolved in November 2025, to records.

Luria joined the board of Overseas Shipholding Group (OSG) several months after leaving Congress. OSG announced her election to the board June 21, 2023. Luria left the House on Jan. 3, 2023.

“Ms. Luria’s record of experience in both government affairs, as well as naval defense and the shipping industry, makes her an excellent candidate for our Board,” OSG’s 2023 proxy before her election to the board.

During her time in Congress, Luria received $1,000 from OSG’s corporate PAC, which described the contribution as being for “a Virtual Maritime Event,” according to Federal Election Commission (FEC) records.

The company was taken private by Saltchuk about a year after Luria joined the board with a merger agreement dated May 19, 2024, according to a Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) filing. The merger closed July 10, 2024, at $8.50/share.

On Dec. 13-14, 2023, Luria bought 40,000 OSG shares for about $190,540 to $191,000, according to an SEC filing. At $8.50, those shares were worth $340,000, a gain of about $149,000. (RELATED: The New Insider Trading Ban Barely Scratches The Surface As Congress Tries To Appease Americans)

In 2023, Luria had also earned $41,500 in cash alongside stock awards valued at $100,000, which were subsequently sold during a merger for $221,850, according to an SEC filing.

Just four months after stepping down from office, Luria also joined the BAE Systems corporate board.

Luria received $12,500 from BAE Systems’ corporate PAC for the 2020 and 2022 election cycles. The PAC gave her $10,000 in 2022.

Although her 2023 and 2024 earnings from the position remain undisclosed—as BAE is a British company and board records are not public—Luria receiving $159,000 from BAE Systems in 2025.

Luria is facing off against Republican Rep. Jen Kiggans, whom she lost to in 2022.
