Get Your Popcorn Ready: ESPN To Drop Six-Part ‘Saban’ Documentary That Gives Us Hours Of Unseen Footage
This looks like one of those “need to watch” projects if you’re a sports fan.
ESPN is dropping a six-episode documentary series Oct. 8 called “Saban,” where we will have the opportunity to learn more about the life, upbringing and philosophy of legendary college football coach Nick Saban.

The doc goes deep into the 17-season run that Saban had at the University of Alabama, and not just that, but it also covers his days at Louisiana State University and the Miami Dolphins in the NFL.
Having never before been made public, hundreds of hours of video footage of Saban’s time at Alabama were provided to ESPN and Words + Pictures for the series.
“Saban” will feature interviews from more than 70 people who are connected to the coach in some fashion, including Lane Kiffin, Bill Belichick, Jalen Hurts, Tua Tagovailoa, Tim Tebow, Kirby Smart, Steve Sarkisian, Saban’s wife Terry, and even Saban himself.
To be completely honest, a project like this was always inevitable, but that doesn’t mean it won’t be interesting. And entertaining at that.
Saban ran the tightest ship in modern sports history. While he was actively coaching, we only ever saw the impenetrable armor — the prickly press conference rants about “rat poison,” the headset slam on the sidelines, and the utter refusal to show vulnerability. Getting hundreds of hours of unreleased, behind-the scenes Alabama footage is basically like cracking open Fort Knox for football nerds.
What I’m most curious to see is whether the series will challenge Saban at all, or if it will just serve as a six-part victory lap. Will it press into his departure from Miami and how he slimed my Dolphins? Will he have to address pretty much saying “see ya!” when the NIL era started getting too hot?
We’ll see, all I know is that I have Oct. 8 circled on my schedule — an absolute must-watch.
