Quaid, who played car owner Tim Daland in the original 1990 film, argued that the actress doesn’t fit the fanbase.
“Anne Hathaway is a leftist, woke, horrible choice for DAYS OF THUNDER NASCAR audience who are MAGA,” he wrote on X.
“The sexy older chick for Tom in this film needs to be Nicole. That’s the casting that would sell the idea.”
Quaid made his position on the film unmistakably clear in this original X post.
“It’s interesting because when we made the first one there was also a rush to get it out; editors slept in the cutting room on shifts,” he said.
The actor continued, “This is a weird thing, like they want it to come out and tank.”

In a subsequent message shared the same day on X, Quaid advised, “If I were in control of production, a real sequel worth watching for DAYS OF THUNDER would be seeing Tom and Nicole together on screen again.”
He continued, “We don’t need a new girl; we need a new race car! We need Nicole back. Don’t be a p—y, @TomCruise.”
Quaid doubled down on Cruise.
“You need the original girl. It’s not personal; it’s filmmaking. Anne isn’t sexy, because and if you haven’t noticed, she’s pregnant.” (RELATED: Tom Cruise’s Daughter Reportedly Makes Major Move In Family Rift)
The online rant came shortly after Cruise and Hathaway released a promo video Sunday, announcing that she was cast in the film.
The original “Days of Thunder” starred Cruise alongside Kidman and Robert Duvall.
