Rams Owner Stan Kroenke To Purchase Angels For Record-Breaking $4 Billion Valuation: REPORT
Sports tycoon Stan Kroenke, ladies and gentlemen … wow.
In a bit of a twist that brings a conclusion to a chaotic ownership tenure, Los Angeles Angels owner Arte Moreno has agreed to sell the franchise to Stan Kroenke, who is also the owner of the Los Angeles Rams in the NFL. According to ESPN’s Buster Olney, the Angels were sold at a $4 billion valuation, which beats out the prior MLB record set earlier in 2026 by the Padres’ new ownership. San Diego sold for $3.9 billion.
The purchase by Kroenke is for a “controlling interest” in the organization and will be completed through Kroenke Sports & Entertainment. The holding company also owns the Colorado Avalanche (NHL), Denver Nuggets (NBA), Colorado Rapids (MLS) and Arsenal F.C. (English Premier League), per a press release Tuesday via ESPN.
For Angels fans who have spent the better part of the last decade screaming into the void, this is a blatant exorcism.
Arte Moreno’s reign, at least the latter of it, will forever be remembered as one of the most frustrating masterclasses in organizational mismanagement across modern sports. This was an owner blessed with generational, once-in-a-lifetime superstars in Mike Trout and Shohei Ohtani, but he could never put a winning team on the field with them.
And this while the Dodgers were up the 5 Freeway building a perennial powerhouse, and as we know, this ultimately led to Ohtani walking across town to join it, which was a final indictment on Moreno.
But hey, at least he can walk away with a record-breaking $4 billion windfall, which is a great consolation prize if you ask me.
