The “Top Gun: Maverick” actor was reportedly attacked at his girlfriend’s home June 3 and her son has since been arrested and charged for his murder. A recently released report by the County of Los Angeles Medical Examiner revealed that a verbal dispute on the front porch between Handy and Michael Gledhill led to an intense physical altercation, according to TMZ

Gledhill allegedly pinned James during the violent attack and then dragged him to the side of the house. He went back into the house to retrieve what “appeared to be a knife,” and came at Handy again, according to the report.

Police arrived on-scene and the actor was transported to a hospital, where he was declared deceased. Gledhill allegedly flagged the officers down and admitted to the deed.

Gledhill remains in Van Nuys Jail on $2 million bail. His mother, Wendy Gledhill, told TMZ early in June that her son suffered from mental health problems and schizophrenia and had ceased using his medications prior to his alleged fatal encounter with Handy. She claimed he had shown increasing signs of paranoia and received medications after being diagnosed in July 2025. (RELATED: Horrifying Details Emerge In Death Of ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ Star)
