A video taken at a town hall that appears to have occurred last week shows one of Sand’s staffers turning away a videographer because she worked for Adam Steen, a former Republican candidate for governor. In the video, the staffer—who also appears in a Sand campaign ad—tells the videographer that it is their policy not to allow anyone who works for opposing candidates into the town hall.

Notably, Sand has tried to position himself as a political moderate, running on a platform centered around his signature slogan “better and truer, not redder or bluer,” and presenting himself as a nonpartisan candidate.

In a campaign ad Sand posted to X, he says, “I hold an open town hall in every county, every year, eight years running … Everyone is welcome. All ideas are too, because good ones don’t belong to just one political party.” (RELATED: Iowa’s Rob Sand Vows To Force Republicans To ‘Take Their Medicine’)

Sand has taken fire from Republicans for being “just a Democrat pretending to be an independent.” Iowa GOP spokeswoman Jade Cichy told the Daily Caller, “Don’t buy the gimmick. Rob Sand’s ‘Governor for All’ is just a slogan. He’s a wolf in sheep’s clothing whose agenda would take Iowa down the path of California and Illinois.”

A month earlier, audio leaked of Sand saying that Republicans need to “take their medicine” when discussing legislation on the politicization of judges, The Daily Caller reported.
