Man Tied To ‘Islamist Circles’ Suspected Of Terror Attack During Pride Parade Was Shot, Killed By Police

The now-dead suspect, 21-year-old German citizen of Lebanese-decent, Abdul B., was shot and killed by special unit police officers (SEK) in Berlin Sunday after he allegedly charged members of German law enforcement with a knife, NBC News reported. Police identified him as the main suspect behind the Saturday attacks at the Berlin pride celebrations, where he allegedly drove a vehicle into a crowd of people and attacked others with a bladed weapon.

One woman was killed and 29 others were injured.

German authorities described the suspect as having been “radicalized” and a member of “Islamist circles,” the outlet noted. “Everything we are seeing here indicates that we have experienced an Islamist attack,” German Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt told journalists at a press conference Sunday.

Abdul B. did have a criminal background and had been sentenced to 10 months in a Berlin prison, Dobrindt said, It is unclear what crime he had committed.

Once the suspect was identified, a manhunt ensued.

The man was found around 6 p.m. Sunday at an allotment garden complex in the westernmost section of Berlin, the outlet noted.

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz publicly denounced the attacks at the pride festival in Berlin as “a heinous act.”
