WWE Hall Of Famer Dory Funk Jr. Dead At 85
WWE Hall of Famer Dory Funk Jr. has died at the age of 85.
Triple H, the Chief Content Officer for the WWE, announced his death Tuesday in a heartfelt Instagram tribute, honoring the WWE legend as one of the longest-reigning world champions in professional wrestling history and praising the lasting impact he had on the sport.

“From the Double Cross Ranch to the @WWE Hall of Fame, Dory’s style inspired countless performers in our industry,” Triple H wrote.

Triple H’s statement continued.
“Whether it was at WrestleMania 2, WCW, ECW, or the dozens of NWA-affiliated promotions, his travels across North America and Asia were a part of the early blueprint that helped build this business into a global phenomena.”
He honored Dory Funk Jr. by describing him as “A hard-nosed and fierce competitor.”
“His rugged in-ring style was only eclipsed by the decades he spent training athletes to perform in the squared circle he loved so much,” he continued.]
Dory Funk Jr.’s wrestling career began in 1963, and he captured the NWA World Heavyweight Championship in 1969. He went on to hold the title for four consecutive years, earning the second-longest uninterrupted reign in the championship’s history.

He partnered with his younger brother, Terry Funk, for WrestleMania 2, and the pair became the only siblings to each hold the NWA World Heavyweight Championship title. They were inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame together in 2009. Terry died in August 2023.
Dory Funk Jr. is credited for training and inspiring a list of wrestling stars including Kurt Angle, Edge, the Hardy Boyz, and Christian Cage.
