EXCLUSIVE: Chip Roy Presses Texas State University For Defending H-1B Staffer
Republican Texas Rep. Chip Roy is pressing Texas State University for answers after renewing an employment contract with a foreign worker on an H-1B visa, according to a letter obtained exclusively by the Daily Caller.
Texas State University came under fire for renewing the employment of an H-1B visa holder who graduated from the school, rather than prioritizing American graduates and workers. Roy pressed the university, questioning whether they were prioritizing foreign nationals over qualified Americans.(RELATED: EXCLUSIVE: Heritage Foundation Offers Drastic Reforms To H1-B Visas As Trump Defends Program)
“It raises questions about the extent to which the university may be prioritizing the hiring of foreign nationals over American graduates and workers, and whether it made good-faith efforts to recruit a qualified U.S. citizen for the position,” the letter reads.
Roy also noted Texas Gov. Greg Abbott’s directive to all state agencies and universities that requires new H-1B visa petitions to be frozen through May 31, 2027.

“Recent data show Texas as a leading state in Labor Condition Applications filed to hire H-1B workers, raising concerns that businesses, employers, and colleges may be overlooking Texans who are qualified, talented, and, in many cases, being displaced to employ cheaper foreign alternatives who likely do not possess unique or specialized skills,” the letter reads. Roy asked the university to disclose, according to the letter, the number of H-1B visa holders employed there since fiscal year 2020, as well as the current number of H-1B visa holders employed by the university, their specialized skills, and their salaries.
The Texas lawmaker also asked for a “detailed explanation of how Texas State has tried to recruit U.S. citizens” compared to employment postings that have solicited H-1B workers.
