Democrat Candidate Deleted Hundreds Of Posts Calling The Nuclear Family ‘Violent’ And Calling For ‘Overhaul’ Of Constitution

A Democrat nominee for a competitive Michigan House seat, William Lawrence, deleted hundreds of social media posts calling for far-left policies before launching his campaign.

These posts included supporting the abolition of core institutions, including the police and prisons, the Senate, and even called for a “fundamental overhaul” of the Constitution, CNN reported Friday. (RELATED: Somehow Voters Still Hate Democrats More Than Republicans)

Lawrence had also said “f*ck” the nuclear family and called it an “isolating, individualistic, violent way of organizing society.”

Other posts include calling for the nationalization of fossil-fuel companies so that they can be forced to end production, and sharing that he envisioned a “world of free and open migration.”

Lawrence had also attacked moderate members of his own party, saying in 2020 that he was “ashamed to be represented” by the then-Democrat Michigan Rep., now-Sen. Elissa Slotkin, whom he described as a “supposed Democrat” after she did not condemn President Donald Trump’s strike that killed Iranian Gen. Qasem Soleimani.

Similar attacks would continue, going as far as writing a song in 2021 that had been inspired by the resistance of former Democrat Sen. Joe Manchin to the Democrats’ climate agenda.

The song, titled “Our generation says f*ck you for everything,” included the lyric “Hurry up and die so that we can get started.”

If Lawrence wins this November, he could serve as a deciding vote in the House, taking many of these positions with him. However, Lawrence has since walked back some of these positions.

When some deleted posts about supporting the “defund the police” movement were raised in an interview with Semafor in July, Lawrence said that his comments were “out of step with what I believe now.”

He also told CNN last month that he had let his membership with the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) “lapse.” He now tells CNN that he regrets his comments directed at Slotkin and that he no longer supports open borders.

“Like many millennials, I’ve done my fair share of thinking out loud on the internet,” Lawrence told CNN. “I’ve been clear that I disagree today with some things I posted in the past; I remain a staunch critic of the political status quo, and the obscene concentration of wealth and power that corrupts our politics and leaves working people unrepresented.”

Lawrence has now been the Democrat nominee since August and is preparing to dethrone Republican Rep. Tom Barrett, an incumbent fighting in his first reelection campaign.

Polls taken in mid-August and conducted by the House Majority PAC, whose stated goal is to elect House Democrats, show that Lawrence is up two points on Barrett, as the current representative has a 47 percent unfavorable view.

Lawrence responded to the report, saying that “Billionaire-funded SuperPACs are launching attack ads against me,” by digging up old tweets that “I deleted because I didn’t agree with them anymore.”

“I’ve said some dumb things,” Lawrence said. “I don’t take orders from billionaires or party bosses. That’s why these billionaires are going all out to try to defeat me.” (RELATED: Trump’s Ex-Labor Secretary Fancied Strip Clubs, Abused Public Office Investigation Finds)

William Lawrence’s campaign team did not respond to the Daily Caller’s request for comment.
