American forces are already positioned in the Middle East for a potentially sweeping offensive targeting Iranian military installations, nuclear facilities and energy infrastructure, two anonymous U.S. officials told CNN. Iran has “substantially increased efforts to target U.S. personnel” and plotting efforts “have reached advanced stages in both the Middle East and certain other countries,” according to an Oct. 17 memo from Director of National Intelligence Jay Clayton to Secretary of State Marco Rubio, CNN reported.
