Powerful Surveillance Company Slithers Tentacles Deeper Into Democratic Party
Palantir, a powerful AI surveillance firm, hired a former Democratic senator and several Democratic lobbyists connected to House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, according to a report published Monday.

Palantir maintains close ties to and contracts with the Trump administration, providing its technology to the U.S. military, the Department of Homeland Security, the Department of Health and Human Services, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the National Institutes of Health and the U.S. Department of Agriculture. A June 15 disclosure, first reported by nonprofit investigative outlet Sludge, showed that the company has hired Avoq LLC as a lobbying firm beginning May 1, and that the four-person team is deeply tied to Democratic machine politics.

Steve Elmendorf, a top Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee fundraiser; Cedric Grant, who was Jeffries’s first chief of staff in the House; Keith Castaldo, a former general counsel to Democratic New York Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand; and Joseph Orlando, an ex-staffer for Democratic Reps. Frank Pallone and Jan Schakowsky will work on the Palantir team, according to Sludge.
Palantir also hired former Democratic Alaska Sen. Mark Begich as a lobbyist, according to a June 8 filing, Sludge reported. During his Senate career, which lasted from 2009 to 2015, Begich served on the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation, the Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs, the Committee on Veterans’ Affairs and the Committee on Armed Services.
Palantir’s latest push into the Democratic lobbying world could spark backlash from left-wing, grassroots activists, as one’s stance on the company — and whether one owns stock or has received political donations from its executives — has become something of a litmus test for Democratic candidates.

In February, a local news outlet published a story tracking New Jersey Democrats who have taken money from Palantir.
Make the Road, a non-profit organization, later hosted a rally in March calling for Democratic Rep. Josh Gottheimer to return his donations.
Democratic Rep. Tom Suozzi dumped his Palantir stock after a February report on his assets.
John Beccia, a Democrat running in the crowded primary for Democratic Massachusetts Rep. Seth Moulton’s seat, had his small stock holdings in the company scrutinized by local news outlet Andover News.
“The Palantir holding stands out politically because the company has been a flashpoint in Democratic politics,” the outlet noted.
