NASCAR Hits 23XI Racing Staffer With Ban After Allegedly Assaulting 77-Year-Old Man With Golf Cart
A female staffer a part of the Michael Jordan-owned race team has been indefinitely suspended by NASCAR after allegedly using a golf cart to assault a man during the recent race weekend at Charlotte Motor Speedway. The man was 77 years old.

It was announced Wednesday by the sanctioning body in their weekly penalty report, with the punishment for Evanna Daneen Howell being branded a “behavioral” incident, per ESPN. The 35-year-old Howell was placed under arrest Saturday and hit with an assault charge against Dennis Manchester at the speedway, according to Cabarrus County court records. Details of the incident weren’t made available, however, court records reveal that Judge Matthew Black discovered probable cause that the 23XI Racing staffer “unlawfully, willfully, and feloniously did assault Dennis Manchester with golf cart used to assault the victim deadly weapon, inflicting serious injury,” per ESPN.
According to court records, Howell was issued a bond of $125,000 and released Tuesday after her first appearance. Howell is retaining Harold Cogdell Jr. as her lawyer.
Cogdell Jr., 23XI Racing and NASCAR have yet to publicly comment on the situation.
Currently living in Charlotte, Howell works for 23XI Racing as a senior account manager. The racing team is owned by both Jordan and driver Denny Hamlin. Since 2021, Howell has been employed by the team, according to her profile on LinkedIn.
